Groenland’s quest to resurrect the pearls of Holger Czukay’s 30-year career takes a fastidious turn with this reissue of his 1980 hookup with Conny Plank, a producer who helped shape the first few Kraftwerk LPs and who was recently honoured on the label’s ‘Who’s That Man’ compilation. The three tracks from the original 1000 run of ‘Les Vampyrettes’ are here presented in a limited 3 x 10” box, and sound as good as they’ve been rumoured to be: squelching synths, twanging guitars, and rasping vocals that fit with the vampire cover art on ‘Biomutaten’; gurgling radars and stoned sound effects on ‘Menetekel’. Could this be the record Gary Numan heard that kickstarted goth electronica?
