Released in 1996, 'Luxa' marked American avant-garde composer Harold Budd's first solo album since 1991 and showed his talents still very much intact. Budd's music is always undeniably beautiful, riddled with silvery keys and luxuriating ambience delivered with widescreen ambition. On 'Luxa' the tone is darker. Split into four sections, the opening segment of melancholy piano - which includes the beautifully wistful 'A Sidelong Glance From My Nefertiti' - is followed by three miniatures before the tone changes to deep, ambient drone and then once again returns to the piano based compositional style Budd made his name with on 'Marion Brown (Sweet Earth Flying)'.
