Burgeoning Grime producer Visionist continues a prolific run of solid releases with two cuts for excellent UK label Ramp. Both offerings take more extrovert elements of bass music and turn them on their head into shady, melancholic monsters that recall the best of Mala in their sense of brooding atmosphere. ‘M’ subjects the kind of chipmunk synth vocals you’d expect from Hudson Mohawke to a perfectly judged reverb, and cages them within a rumbling sub-bass. B-side ‘Secrets’ plunges garage tropes under water, with the low-end once more packing the real punch, and the details of the production kept at an alluring distance.
