Though British musician Bryn Jones never visited the Middle East and had no specific ties (family or religious) to that region, his work as Muslimgauze was born out of indignation at the state of that regions politics, particularly the plight of Palestine. He died in 1999 of a rare blood infection, so his work never took in the post-911 Arab world and all the subsequent invasions, wars and upheaval leading up to and continuing after The Arab Spring, which gives listening back now to his work now - even just reading through the track titles - a strangely distant feel. 'Hamas Cinema Gaza Strip' collects releases from towards the end of his life. They are less abrasive in sound that some of his output, strung out dub and unfurling found-sound pulled together with juddering samples and an approach to rhythm closest to the mellow swing of hip hop.
