Eleven excellent electroacoustic pieces for the Studiotraunium keyboard from 1961 written for the New York City Ballet by George Balanchine once again shows that when it comes to charming rarities, there’s none better than Manchester’s Finders Keepers label. There’s still a modern shock to the deranged quality of the A-side, which ranges from purring drones to a psychedelic take on Stravinsky. An equally idiosyncratic B-side completes an unbelievable release which seems to thwart much of today’s output in its truly visionary ambition.
