23-year-old electropop producer Idris Vicuña surfaced in 2013 with his limited vinyl album ‘Hearing Colors’, a College/M83-like collection of husky electronica featuring female vocalist Skint Eastwood. The pair are back for Eyedress’ first release on Abeano, a four-track 12” with richer keyboards and even sharper beats. ‘Tokyo Ghost’ could be the soundtrack to a Far Eastern Drive sequel, all swirly vocals, throbbing digital bass and euphoric synth lines; lead track ‘Nature Trips’ is a waddling slice of slowed-down techno where the ticking drumwork almost vanishes in Eastwood’s ethereal voice, and glowering 808s. Closing track ‘No Competition’ switches things up with a Hyperdub-style dayglo bass assault. A safe bet for anyone with even a passing interest in the ‘80s.
