New experimental imprint Soniclab present a beguiling and beautifully strange album from XNX, which compiles a decade’s work created for installation and performance by Ilidio Chaves. ‘Sphere of Perception’ appears to filter itself out over its 12 minute duration, spreading from a dense blanket of metallic rebounding attacks to a rhythmic collection of ultra-high sine bleeps and gorgeous synth washes that recall Alva Noto at his best. Amidst the walls of ambient sound, the acid techno diversions of ‘The Passage’ in both of its parts provide a surprising detour which keeps the listener guessing.
