Musical duo KFL, consisting of Sunn-O))) mastermind Stephen O’Malley and Editions Mego label founder Peter Rehberg (AKA Pita), are decidedly and expectedly open-ended. Originally conceived to perform an original score for French artist Gisèle Vienne’s theatre piece Kindertotenlieder, the duo collaborate with Vienne again for her latest work, The Pyre. Their score for the piece envelopes the listener; sonic figures subtly changing shape in a brooding fog, with nothing but occasional narration for anchorage.
