Ghostly International brings a beloved curio back to vinyl (and to streaming for the very first time) with this reissue of Swedish duo Studio’s sole 2006 LP West Coast. The runaway success of the self-released album seemed to blow away Dan Lissvik and Rasmus Hägg, and while a planned follow up never coalesced, West Coast’s blend of icy post-punk churn, krautrock elasticity, and indie pop geekdom somehow feels ever more prescient in today’s electronic music world. The reissue adds some demos, outtakes, and an edit from a remix package that was to be their final salvo, it’s mostly just refreshing to hear tracks like the giddy half-time disco bounce of ‘Self-Service’ again with fresh ears and an open heart.
