While primarily known as the main consigliere for all things Lana Del Rey, Blake Lee strikes out on his own here with No Sound In Space, his debut for KMRU’s OFNOT label. Long fascinated with the vast emptiness of space, Lee used the sound design of Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey as a jumping off point to explore the headier tones and drifting ambience contained within. Another influence came in the form of his now label boss. An inspired KMRU performance in Los Angeles begat a digital friendship turned collaboration, as Lee turned over drafts of what became No Sound In Space for the Kenyan-born producer to tinker with in his Berlin studio. The end result is a stunning collection of songs that finds a strange comfort in the infinite nothingness.
