Together with ‘The Crackdown’, the seminal 1984 release ‘Micro-Phonies’ marked a pivotal moment in the illustrious recording career of Sheffield’s Cabaret Voltaire, seeing a shift from the grainy, experimental soundtrack of 1970’s South Yorkshire to more beat driven, synth-pop centric tracks. Resultantly, ‘Micro-Phonies’ achieved the most mainstream success with singles “James Brown” and “Sensoria”. Here, remastered from the original recordings it is hard to dispute the undeniable impact this outfit had on electronic music.
