Paul Dickow’s first release on Bristol’s Idle Hands imprint presents an interesting side step from the Portland producer’s ambient releases on Chicago’s Kranky. ‘Return from the Stars’ is an upbeat dub number, which takes the core elements of crawling Rhythm & Sound dub-techno and makes them more infectious and bubble-gum tinged. Complete with flanging mid—range dub stabs and bongos which recall a playful Shackleton, the A-side is an assured take on an iconic template, while Peverelist’s remix twists the track into the kind of classic metallic two-step which defines the early output of his Punch Drunk label.
