The third helping of good-time mambo, jazz, funk and blues from crate-diggers Soul Jazz is here. ‘New Orleans Funk 3’ collects eighteen tracks of street-filling carnival tunes from the archives: rarities such as Eldridge Holmes’ swinging ‘If I Were A Carpenter’, and marginally more well-known songs like the 12 bar blues of Professor Longhair’s ‘Go To The Mardi Gras’. You’d have to be one seriously sour-faced MD not to enjoy what Soul Jazz keep offering.
