Released in 1996 on Warp, the Girl/Boy EP marks Richard D James’ whimsical vocal debut. Startling as ever, the electronic legend presents six ludicrous but brilliant braindance stunners spinning over their dizzying breakbeats. Extolling the milkman, vegetables with cheese and the beetles under his carpet, he proves once again that he shouldn’t be taken too seriously. The title track appears in three very different versions: the opening ‘NLS Mix’ offers classical delicacy with plucked strings, mallets and wind instruments, counteracted by the jittery beat which he slows down in ‘£18 Snare Rush Mix’. The ‘Redruth Mix’ finishes off the EP with wild rhymes.
