Veteran Kid606’s new full-length on his own esteemed Tigerbeat6 label is entitled ‘Happiness’, and lives up to its billing with a sense of wide-eyed optimism prevailing throughout. Reportedly inspired by a move from Berlin to sunny LA, the album brims with warmth on tracks like the hip-hop inflected ‘Blood Stevia Sex Magik’, and the glorious ‘Smooth Sailing’, which is full of choirs of MIDI angels. The album has all the washed-out splendour of the likes of Gold Panda and Baths, but bears the hallmark of labels like Aphex Twin’s Rephlex in the traces of fidgety, high-definition sound which bubbles beneath the euphoria.
