Belgian label We Play House issues a compilation of stand-out House producers making new work inspired by the ‘80s Belgian new beat style, with each producers taking on a new alias to match the flavour of the era. ‘Our Beat is Still New’ contains missive from the likes of JD Twitch (of Optimo), Locked Groove, and Aril Brikha to name but a few, and is a strong homage the old Belgian style without simply replicating its tropes. San Soda’s acid-tinged ‘Gimme Some A_’, produced under the name Nick Berlin, sounds like Aphex Twin at his most rudimentary and deadly, while Jaques Renault & Mark’s ‘Question Mark’ makes a strong impact with striding house pianos, distorted bells and a heavy jack.
