Knitting Factory Records’ reissuing of Fela Kuti’s back catalogue, almost in its entirety, has given a sense of the scope and vision of the Afrobeat legend’s work and its enduring impact. With the label focussing now on some of the final records in this seminal artist’s output, 1989’s ‘Beasts of No Nation/Odoo’ is pumped full of the soulful winds and ticking shuffling percussion which by this late stage had been become hewed down to a near perfect essence. Another vital slice of a vast reissue collection of remarkable depth.
