Fresh from the serrated agitations of 2022’s Orange, Naarm duo CS + Kreme dart into the more dramatic and worldly realm of song on their third album The Butterfly Drinks The Tears Of The Tortoise. Populated by seafaring guitar strums and soft harmonies, mediaeval arrangements and strings from the Sundanese tarawangsa, the album is rooted in organic structures and instrumentation, though not without its swarms of asymmetrical rhythms and industrial microbeats. ‘Uki’ captures this contrast well with its abstract swirls of vocal loops, whispers, and bass bubbles, suddenly erupting into an avant acid techno workout of claps and right angled melody.
