UK beat-maker Submerse has found time to squeeze in a second EP of twisted hip-hop rhythms only months after ‘Algorithms & Ghosts’, his first work for Berlin-based Project Mooncircle. ‘Melonkoly’ weaves pitch-shifted vocals around a slouching beat and warm bass blips. B-sides ‘Keepoised’ and ‘Spending Time’ don’t break the atmosphere with gentle but luscious synths and delicate drum work, while remixes include the likes of RLP and Deft, who turns the title track into a fast-paced IDM landscape. Submerse has managed the unlikely task of tying vintage electronica sounds to more broken contemporary beats.
