De:tuned continues their loving excavation of the incredible Nuron vault with this second collection of unearthed gems direct from the DAT Tapes. A foundational figure in the early 90s UK rave scene, Neuron was an acolyte of the emotive sounds coming out of Detroit and Chicago in the late 80s and his earliest works show a clear deference for that American midwest style. However, there’s a playful freshness to these synth and drum machine workouts as well that place them out of time. The rubbery hi-hats and submersive synths of ‘Midnight Echo’ would feel right at home on any contemporary dancefloor, while the frenetic ‘Jungle Frenzy’ lacks breaks it does bear plenty of the genre-to-come’s nervy energy.
