Dutchman Tom Trago’s third album on Rush Hour recordings, ‘The Light Fantastic’, further consolidates the funk-driven house sound which he has been crafting for the best part of a decade. The record impresses over all of its 9 tracks, with every offering simmering with dance-floor potential. The opening three tracks are smooth, understated numbers with Trago’s processed vocals making the occasional appearance, but the more physical ‘Down Under’, which strongly recalls the work of fellow countryman Legowelt, sees the LP open out into heavier terrain. ‘Cosmic Blacksmith’ is driven by a burrowing electro bass line, while on ‘Two Together’ any pent up energy is released in a jacking frenzy.
