LA psych hero Ty Segall returns to the Drag City label for another new LP of solo material entitled Love Rudiments. Entirely instrumental and impressively percussive, Segall returns to his first love here: the drums. In fact, everything else on Love Rudiments was written around and built up from the drum tracks Despite the lack of lyrics there’s a palpable sense of romance here, for music, and especially for rhythm. Split into four movements that traverse several tracks (other than the eponymous closer), Segall has effectively written a love letter to the very practice of making a beat.
