Much of Stockholm composer Malcolm Pardon’s work has centred on the concept of death, like being in groups named DeadMono and Dead People, or his 2021 debut album Hello Death. It’s a fearsome, mysterious, and even relieving thing that accompanies us throughout life; a notion Pardon captures on his second album The Abyss. At times it’s harsh, like the revolving shots of turbulence on ‘Enter The Void’ surrounding fluttering melodies in a plunging atmosphere. At other times, it’s enthralling and magical, with emotive chords and synths guiding us through as delicate piano hangs above the ambience and is soaked in delay.
