‘Del Oro’, his latest for Ninja Tune, is, in a word, a blast. Floating Points drips radar doppler-like synth stabs as if from a squeeze bottle over a shuffling, insistent backbeat that never really quits. A few high-drama sweeps keep things moving as the intensity slowly ratchets up and up over its six minute runtime. All of this makes for a perfect late-in-the-night roller as opposed to last year’s more gnarled and hard-charging ‘Birth4000’ single. Tokyo visual artist Akiko Nakayama’s brightly hued and liquified artwork adds a nice touch, as well.
