Timothy Archambault returns to the Ideologic Organ label for a new LP entitled Onimikig. Accompanied by an elaborate and highly detailed booklet, Archambault’s work here splits the difference between in-depth musicological research and progressive woodwind music. Inspired by the idea of Indigenous brontomancy (or divination by thunder), each on Onimikig utilises a particular flute technique to recreate the thunderous sounds of Archambault’s native Ottawa. The instrument used here was also carved from woods used by the Kichesipirini and other tribes in respect to those who came before him.
