Bleep

A vast sense of space permeates the debut collaboration from pianist Joep Beving and cellist Maarten Vos, giving each track what Beving calls that “blue hour twilight” feel. Solemn shades of keys, strings, and brassy synthscapes drift throughout vision of contentment, in tribute to friend Mark Brounen and “acceptance of the inevitable”. Like drops of water, piano notes curiously tiptoe amidst grandiose, cathartic sweeps of cello on ‘penumbra’, while pointillist dots of synths flit between the harmonic interplay of weightless chords on ‘hades’, pointing towards mentors Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
