US experimentalist Ras G returns to planet earth with ‘Back On the Planet’, although judging from the sonic buffet of intergalactic, otherworldly sounds on offer you would be forgiven for thinking otherwise. Dropping on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint, Ras G combines trademark celestial harmonies with raw, tribal inspired polyrhythmic drum patterns to deadly affect. These are evident on ‘All Is Well’ which is a meditative piece scorched with African Rhythm, whilst ‘Culture Riddim’ is an eclectic, quirky hip-hop instrumental inspired track showing off the genius of a true creative. It’s good to have him back.
