The Scottish indie band shake off the fey sound of their Jeepster years with this rarities compilation from Rough Trade, buzzing with enough energy to make you forget Stuart Murdoch’s a part-time church caretaker. ‘Passion Fruit’ plays with Shadows-like guitar and brooding, Western-soundtrack bass, while ‘Suicide Girl’ juggles sizzling Theremins and tambourines, far too chirpy for its original B-side listing. Still as cute as they ever were but now without the cardigans and wallowing.
