Los Angeles DJ Elvin Estela has condensed the last decade of his cities’ underground music scene into this sparkling LP for Alpha Pup. A long way from the instrumental hip-hop of debut ‘Soulmates’, ‘Vivid Green’ draws on every emergent genre since: bruising dubstep on ‘Rex’, Leftfield-like dub drawls on ‘Flat Black’, symphonic guitars and the vocals of Mars Volta’s Cedric Bixler-Zavala on ‘Our Last Dance’. Michael Mann couldn’t have captured LA better.
