Maya Jane Coles’ debut album ‘Comfort’ arrives in confirmation of the young producer’s impressive rise to prominence in recent years, and comes courtesy of her own ‘I/AM/ME’ label. Many of the album’s cuts feature guest appearances which extend Cole’s trademark sound, with the sinister yet sensuous ‘Wait For You’ including a brilliant vocal from Tricky, and Kim Ann Foxman commanding the main floor hit ‘Burning Bright’ impressively. However, the producer’s solo efforts remain the highlights, with ‘Dreamer’ framing Cole’s breathy vocals in pattering beats and distant synths, and ‘Stranger’ a straight-up pop number which impresses in its pristine production.
