US producer Travis Stewart takes a break from a busy schedule of project and collaboration work to focus on his solo moniker Machinedrum. With an eagerly anticipated full length LP on Ninja Tune entitled ‘Vapor City’ readied for an autumn release, Stewart cranks up the tension with a two track EP - ‘Eyesdontlie’. Opening in a wave of euphoric ambience, slowly drip-feeding drum fills and looped vocals, “Eyesdontlie” works as tick-list exercise for a wide array of genres. Essences of ambient, UK bass and jungle collide with each other resulting in a complex concoction of electronica. “Body Touch” works a similar formula; deploying looped vocodered vocal samples over shifting drum patterns. If this is the shape of things to come, there are many reasons to be excited for ‘Vapor City’.
