London based producer Ikonika has been keeping a low profile over the past three years, but her latest full length on her most frequent outpost Hyperdub sees a welcome return to the spotlight. Her second album ‘Aerotropolis’ is a confident production and is a clear example of an artist who has truly found their sound. There are moments of all out pop sheen - such as 'Beach Mode (Keep It Simple)', which incorporates the vocal talents of Jessy Lanza for a smooth and breezy ride. Elsewhere her knack for glimmering 8-bit synths and sharp production remains on show. 'Eternal Mode' is a piece of swooning electronica, waves of digital atmosphere coalescing in a track of summery optimism. 'You Won't Find It There' meanwhile takes a more minimal stance, jittery shards and ticks of noise creating a peculiar, unique rhythm. It's a highly individual and joyful record. Her most fully realised yet.
