Brooklyn art-prog group Zs are famous for their unpredictability and their sax-wielding frontman Sam Hillmer, who’s prepared this third solo LP in record time. Like ‘Kill the Self That Wants to Kill Yourself’, ‘The Subtle Body Wears a Shadow’ combines ambient soundscapes with experimental saxophone, resulting in the demented (‘Triple Gem’) and the truly mesmerising (the droning synth din of ‘Shrine Flu’). Proof that sax is more than just an intimacy device used in restaurants.
