After two feverishly received 7”s on ambient label Apollo, Nadine Shah’s pop-edged debut is everything fans of the London singer have been waiting for: surly Scott Walker-like guitars on ‘To Be a Young Man’; gloomy piano scales over forlorn vocals on ‘Filthy Game’, echoing post-rock riffs on ‘Floating’. A no-nonsense album that manages to stay both chilled out earthy in equal measure.
