It took Daft Punk four years to follow up the astounding success of their album Homework. Discovery, released in 2001, proved the group more than capable of making a worthy follow up. 'One More Time' must be one of the most punchy album opening tracks of all time, channelling the same kind of infectiously grooving ecstasy as Thomas Bangalter's 'Music Sounds Better With You', setting exultant vocals, booming horns and energetically thumping bass into a dizzy but concise piece of dance pop perfection. It's a fitting introduction to the cleaner, more tightly wound sound on display here in contrast to Homework. 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' bumps with crisp robotic beats, while 'Crescendolls' flips from Moroder-style driving synthetic machine music to raw, chugging disco and 'Face To Face' (featuring garage legend Todd Edwards) grinds with the producer's trademark choppy sampling. An album that takes all the fun of the dance floor and distills it into pop masterpiece after masterpiece.
