You might not be familiar with Icelandic indie rock group The Sugarcubes, but you’ll definitely be familiar with their lead singer: those vocals couldn’t belong to anyone else but Björk. For newcomers and older devotees alike, One Little Indian’s reissue of The Sugarcubes’ 1988 debut album Life’s Too Good offers a fine excuse to see where it all begun for Björk Guðmundsdóttir. The main draw here is the magical ‘Birthday’, the single that first put The Sugarcubes on the map after it was praised by John Peel and across the indie press, but the rest of the record is a nuttily diverse array of rambunctious pop, sarcastic punk, and off-kilter new wave.
