French piano prodigy Val Stip has got even more confident pulling sounds from his computer since 2011 EP ‘Anytime Will Do’. ‘Angst’ is more melodic than his debut, opening with ambient dub on ‘Wilt(z)’ and Burial-like beats/droplets on the gorgeous ‘Nwia’. For sheer variety, there’s Afro-baggy hi-jinks on Huge Bocca’s reinterpretation of ‘Hiathaikm’, while the title track whispers and moans over slow, spaced-out IDM. If this is the angst, we can’t wait to hear bliss.
