When electronic producer Kevil Palmer cleared his loft, he didn’t expect to find synthesizer percussion tests he’d forgotten about since the Clinton administration. With some guidance from UK label label Astro:Dynamics he cleaned them up, ripped the most interesting beats onto digital and put them back on tape for this flighty but melodic compilation. From the electric swampland of ‘Prmtv TDK SA-X100’ to ‘Wt Drms Cso Maxell 94’ and its obliterated reggae, ‘Excavated Tapes’ makes for a fascinating antique, as original as it is retro-sounding.
