Bristol’s Tectonic Records has a ten-year reputation for fearsome dubstep, and their fourth compilation benefits from an exploration of across-the-pond techno-orientated material. Pursuit Groove’s ‘Hard Beginnings’ drops a 4/4 beat around sax samples, while ‘Kerplunk’ by Distal crunches world music into a crazed, keyboard-driven percussion test. The fire’s still there thanks to the likes of Guido and his dubstep beats twisted around synths and electric piano. As earthmoving as the name suggests.
