When not playing as half of folktronica duo Jane, New Yorker Scott Mau likes to create dreamily decayed pop as Queens, whose debut album is one very pleasant trip. ‘Keep It’ twangs at blurry guitar while Mau cries out vocals, threatening to out-Grouper Grouper. ‘Cables’ takes a blast of MBV-style feedback and pushes it. Hypnotic and faintly menacing, here’s hoping this is the start of more abstract output to come on Dial.
