A much-needed reissue of his 2000 album, ‘Insulation’ captured Sydney guitar whizzkid Oren Ambarchi at his most experimental and most rewarding. This is still truly out of this world stuff, from the crinkled white noise on ‘Murmur’ that’s revealed to be fret board scratching, to ‘Study No. 3’ and its UFO noises - surely obtained by the axeman playing his Fender with an actual axe. If you thought Kevin Shields could do unholy things to a guitar, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
