That said, Frozen Monarch delivers on multiple fronts of Emile Facey’s sound, all which serve to demonstrate his palette when it comes to provoking diverse moods with a groove. The glassy pads of ‘Halflight’ is propelled by a vintage 808 bass-snare-hi-hat-woodblock melee, while the icy arps of ‘Frozen Monarch’ finds Facey overseeing heightened tension in a track fit for a cinematic scene. The spell is broken by the back-to-basics 4/4 of ‘Cloud Cocoon’, a return to our opening track’s velocity with the bass amped up.
