Ever wondered who wrote the Grandstand theme? It was an open-source piece by library musicians, dozens of which Strut Records have collected for this reissue compilation. Alan Parker’s ‘Unlimited Love’ has a Shaft-funky bass, cool soul strings and an uncanny resemblance to the ‘70s Spider-Man TV theme, while ‘Unchained Melody’ composer Les Baxter throws in ‘Freeway to Rio’: a psychedelic guitar ditty straight from Dennis Hopper’s chopper. Sleeve notes include words and photos by music journalist Charles Waring.
