Former Too Pure labelmates Verity Susman and Matthew Simms have a long history of collaboration and playing in bands; in 2023 they finally form a band of their own with debut double album Music For Film. With tour support for Stereolab and a track for their Duophonic Super 45s compilation in 2022, the influence is clear in MEMORIALS’s rock irreverence. Following “anti-nostalgic” accounts of Britain’s New Romantics in Tramps!, and an all female peace camp against nuclear weapons in Women Against The Bomb, MEMORIALS bring heavily distorted guitars out from leftfield, meeting labyrinthine jazz arrangements, synths sparking with zeal, and politically charged tongue in cheek lyrics.
