VHS Head adds more to the Phocus lore with a generous followup release to his third album. Phasia dives even deeper into the liquefied, ecstatic plunderphonics of Phocus, switching between experimental electro palettes and alien new age ambience in a hyperspeed tape rewind. ‘Locus’ introduces a rumbling collage, building up with epic palettes of sparkles and detuned chords, leading to the mutant disco of ‘Strange Food’ which constantly morphs and tears up sonic material, and reaching a peak at the centrepiece ‘Head Crimes’ where slap bass, eagle cries, and bubble pops are folded into shredding split second stutters.
