Jazz polymath Gabriel Benn is a pianist, a vocalist, producer and session musician whose performance at Latitude has led to this, his debut EP for Audio Doughnuts. Inspired by Africa and South America, ‘Singing In The Dark’ pushes the envelope of originality with repeating piano scales, vinyl fuzz and a Burial-style sample on the title track, and tribal IDM (‘Sleep Stars’) and suntanned, far-flung garage (‘Drop the Clouds’) carrying the flipside. Ideal for the summer that’s surely coming.
