Raoul Konan’s mix of German house shot through with African instrumentation obviously caught the ear of Still Music: they bankrolled a trip from his adoptive town Hamburg to the Ivory Coast so he could record this double-album. The result is a tingling, colourful monolith: string-led techno with ethnic drums on ‘Bardot’; barked, excited vocals set to a keyboard demo on ‘Belebeleba’. Proof that world music need not be the preserve of white people wearing kangas.
