Strut begin 2013 with their first release, a closer look at the seminal work of Celluloid Records, a story that spans the period between 1980 – 1987. Formed in Paris during the late ‘70s by Jean Karakos, the label began by releasing the full spectrum of Bill Laswell’s early work, from the avant-rock Massacre to his fluid, dance, post-punk production outfit, Material. From thereonin Karakos became heavily involved in the NY hip-hop scene – pushing forth names such as Time Zone, Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmixer D.St and Fab 5 Freddy. Celluloid Records find a perfect home on Strut, pitting one shamelessly eclectic label against the other.
