German electronic legend Karl Bartos has “reconceived and retextualised” some of the material he wrote with Kraftwerk, and the result is a collection of bravura electro-rock operas. Angrier than ‘Man Machine’ and ‘Computer World’ combined, ‘Off The Record’ is a tongue-in-cheek duel with his former bandmates that piles ‘90s synths, vocodered robots and atomic power imagery into a camp imagining of the future. Like Orbital or a decent vinegar, these electro titans just keep on maturing.
