London three piece The xx released one of the most lauded and distinctive debut albums in while back in 2009. Shot through the album is a yearning affection for the shoegaze sonics of Galaxie 500, Welsh minimalists Young Marble Giants and the gothic space of early Cure. Add to this brew a youthful desire to blend contemporary R&B flavours into the mix, and we are left with an intriguing release and one that defined a time and place like no other that decade.
